Services

Hope For Kids will provide the following services to foster-to-adopt, domestic, and kinship adoptions, as well as permanent legal custodianship:

Orientation and Training Materials

Prior to the placement of children in your home, all foster/adoptive parents must satisfactorily complete a minimum of five (5) hours of pre-service orientation training, which is primarily skill-based and consistent with the agency's treatment methodology, and outlines the service needs of the children. Before the adoption is finalized the parent(s) must have completed a total of 24 hours of training.

Training content includes topics relevant to successful parenting and family life such as relationship building, child development and discipline with a focus on the specialized needs of children in the program.

Hope For Kids provides monthly training opportunities and additional opportunities throughout the year that are related to the experiences of our parents.

Family Profile

The family profile is a document created from a series of meetings between you and the adoption professional. These meetings will give your family an opportunity to gain better insight into the challenges of adopting a child and how your family will respond to these challenges. On average, the family profile process takes three to four months to complete. There is an educational component to the profile process as well.

An addendum to a family profile will be completed upon request of a county and/or private agency during the first and/or second year following the completion of the original family profile.

Child Profile

A comprehensive review of the child's history and present strengths. The child's emotional, social, academic, and medical history is also documented. Current details about the child are included such as academics, strengths, and current behaviors. The child profile is a great way to learn more abou tthe child, their history, and present needs and strengths.

Child Preparation

Provides the child a voice to acknowledge their past, present, and future. The services will address, but not limited to, the child's issues of grief and loss, identity of self, community and culture, attachment, relationships and safety. The childs possible feelings of abandoment, lack of control, shame and divided loyalties between the adoptive family and birth family will also be addressed.

Hope For Kids caters the child preparation services to the child's unique needs and understanding of their journey and future. All preparation plans will be specific and appropriate to the child's interest, cognitive capacity, and development level.

Post Permanency Support

We offer ongoing support that is facilitated through support meetings, advocacy, post adoption respite care and post adoption training and support. In addition, families are encouraged to use Hope For Kids' 24-hour crisis help line.

Finalization

A series of events and documents that lead up to the finalization of the adoption.

HFK is prepared to expand their current services in the future as our vision and prospective services increase to support our families and contracted agencies.
